I have just watched Frankie and Johnny for the…fourth or fifth time…It’s amazing, when it comes to good films, how you always find something new, something you didn’t notice before…something so beautiful you wonder how on earth it was possible for you to miss it the first, second or nth time… I rediscovered one such moment tonight: the back door to that truck opening behind them while they kiss and revealing… flowers…tons of them, almost as beautiful as their kiss….But tonight was more about Débussy’s Clair de lune…I have listened to this piece before, but I have never really heard it as beautifully clear and simple as I have heard it played against the background of a window open towards a Sunday morning’s sun…I have also rarely felt so alone or sad, and yet so hopeful…

I woke up this morning before sunrise (not actually hard to do, since it rises so goddamn late I actually wonder, for a second, if I haven’t, by any chance, been transported -teleported, whatever- somewhere close to the North pole, where nights are bound to be century-long) and for the first time in days -in weeks, more like it- I felt free to breathe…which I did, taking in deep lungfulls of air, as if I had finally lost that stone chained to my leg and risen above the water…And, with the oxygen flowing back into my brain, the reality of it all hit me: IT’S OVER! … No Christmas tree nearby, no lights, no carols to haunt the mind (and consequently give me headaches)…..The holidays are over …and I have gotten through them successfully resisting the repeated urge to throw myself off the window(bad idea, as that wouldn’t have killed me anyway, given that I live on the ground floor) or swallow the bottle of supposedly anti-depressive pills that (big surprise!) DID NOT ANTI-DEPRESS ME!

…So here I am saying hello to all those loners out there who couldn’t wait for this colourful torture to be over: guys, WE HAVE MADE IT!
